This is the story of my third game of Chain of Command, but the first proper game.
The first game was a trial run, played on 4x2 table with 20mm miniatures and 28mm scenery, but that was what we had at hand at the moment.
The second game was better, it involved a proper size table, 15mm miniatures with corresponding scaled scenery. I guess you could call this the first proper game but the table was not very good. Lot of open space made for a very boring game.
But our third attempt was the real deal with a map better thought out, but the problem was that I made the German player the defender, since it had been the attacker the last two games. At the moment I designed the scenario, I didn't realize that the German player didn't really had much in the way of defenses, being more suited for the attack role.
The scenario was "The Probe", set in 1940 with the British attacking and the Germans defending.

The battlemap as I build it. |
The Germans deploy first in the orchard south of the map. The grouping of JOPs in the south edge makes this area a dangerous one.
The British (me) deploy a section in the south to defend their own JOP. This in turn prompts the Germans to deploy a second squad that takes cover in the barn.
The British deploy a Vickers Mk VIb (although the model is the c variant) that moves in position to cover the deployed section.
On the right flank, a second British section deploys from the JOP in the center of the table, next to the hedgerow.
British section 2 makes it to the second line of hedgerows without opposition.
Still no opposition on the right flank, so British Section 2 makes a move towards the German JOP in the forest.
Still finding no opposition, the British use a command dice to move up the JOP and bring 3rd section into the game.
British section 2 keeps up the advance and captures the German JOP in the forest but this doesn't help to bring the German moral down. The British make sure to keep well away from the hedgerow since the German 3rd Squad has deployed from the JOP closer to the west edge of the map and is keeping a watchful eye on the plowed field that remains between the British and the edge of the table.
The Germans are waiting for the British to pop their heads from the hedgerow.
At this point the Germans decide to fall back and move the squad that was holding positions in the barn.
Following the maneuver period, there were so many actions going on that we forgot to take pictures.
In the forest, both British sections advanced to the hedgerow to try and take the German squad. But the Germans reinforced their positions by redeploying the squad from the barn and deploying two 50cm mortars.
After taking many casualties in the forest, the British decide to make a run for it and send a Dingo up the road to take it's chances against two MG34s. An MG34 opens up on the Dingo making it turn and engage it.
After heavy casualties on both sides, the British retreat to a safety distance inside the forest. Now all my hopes are on the Dingo.
And in a somewhat anticlimactic way, the Dingo makes it off the table winning the game for the British.
And thus a very enjoyable game for both players, ends.
Hopefully all my tanks will be painted for my next battle report.
