Until now, we have used naturalistic markers that blend into the terrain in our games of Chain of Command, for example a stick covered in green turf representing moss would be our overwatch marker. I recently decided to get myself some markers a bit more intrusive but that will be less prone to confusion.
To avoid any unnecessary expenses and shipping times, I decided to go the 3D printing way. I downloaded some ready markers from Thingyverse, but now I think I should have modified them so the letters would be in a depression instead of raised.
Painting was extremely simple, I first covered everything with black primer, and then a base coat of Rustoleum Deep Forest Green cammouflage spray. The letters where painted with Americana Sand colour. Painting each letter was quite tedious and some of them turned out a bit sloppy but I'm happy with the end result.
A problem we have faced in our games is that of the Chain of Command dice. It's recommended in the rules to use different sized dice than regular ones so you wont confuse them and use them to attack. I don't have big sized dice so more than once, in the heat of battle, we have throw them into the pile of attack dice and then we have to try to remember how many CoC dice we have.
The solution I found for this is rotary counters. These are some generic ones I, once again, downloaded from Thingyverse. I modified the size of the numbers so they will be more visible and print better. I also reduced the numbers from the original 10 to 6, to represent a D6.
Painting them was really simple. A base coat of black primer and each number was painted with white brush on primer. A couple of coats of mat varnish and they are for our next game.
