A lot of games use some kind of system to keep track of shock for each unit. Until now we have been using some markers created by my gaming pal that have been working very well, but I wanted to create ones more similar to my style.
As I said, these markers have been working very well, but for some time now I have wanted some markers that reflect my own style. The marker itself won't change, because it's actually the dice the one that is keeping track of Shock. What I wanted to change was the base. The base is really necessary when you are manipulating these small dice in order not to move them by mistake, risking loosing track of shock. Here you can see Bill's original bases that we have been using.
The base is made of some kind of foam that is flexible enough so the dice can fit snugly. I used a similar kind of foam I had laying around, originally bought for a, now defunct, project. To add some weight I used the same kind of washers I use to base my miniatures.
First I draw the contour of the washer and then the contour of the dice and cut the contour of the dice out.
Next step was to superglue the washers to the foam and cut the foam to size around the washers.
For texture I used the same sand mix I use for my miniatures. Then I primed, painted, varnished and flocked them just like I would do a regular miniature's base.
I ended up with 24 bases for my shock markers or ammo markers for my British mortars or, hopefully soon, for my French VB Gunners!
